Memories of Grandma Hilda

Today would have been my Grandma Hilda's 98th birthday! I was thinking about her last night and how cute and funny she was. I miss her and wish she could meet my children and they could see how great she is. I was lucky to grow up living close to my Grandma and saw her often. I loved going to her house to play in her bead curtains in the doorways and stand over the floor heater. She also had a chalkboard painted on her wall and a swing hanging from the big tree in the backyard. My Mom would always tell us not to say we were hungry when we went over but Grandma always had the best treats for us, how could we not ask? When our visit was over she would send us home with blankets so we could bundle up in the car on the way home and then she would flicker her porch light as we drove away. I can also remember Grandma picking me and my brother up from school in her motor home to take us to our dance class in North Hollywood. We would get changed in the back and she would have a snack for us. In my teen years she would come over fold laundry and do ironing for us. I can remember one time she showed up in the evening thinking it was morning and my Mom made her stay the night. She would also drive us to school and pick us up on occasion. I feared for my life on some of those drives, like when we went down Darnoch Way (a winding downhill street) and drove on the opposite side of the road! Grandma was so sweet and always giving service to others. I love her and miss her.

Happy 3rd Birthday Katelyn and Ben

These kids are growing up too fast! It's a good thing though :-) Katelyn and Ben have learned a lot in the past year. They are riding bikes and both potty trained now - hip hip hooray! For their birthday we went to Monkey Bizness to do some jumping and then to McDonalds for lunch (Rebecca had no school and Nate took the morning off). We had one of their favorite dinners, Spaghetti, and then did presents and cake afterward.
